ROLAND GARROS — Rafael Nadal overcame injury, the conditions and an obstinate Novak Djokovic to claim his place in the French Open semi-finals with a 6-2 4-6 6-2 7-6(4) victory.
Nadal romped through the early stages of the match, winning eight of the first 10 games before Djokovic began to find his feet, levelling the match in a 6-4 second set that lasted a scarcely believable 87 minutes.
In their 59th meeting, Nadal and Djokovic appeared to have reached a stalemate when the former won the third set and the latter served for the fourth at 5-3, only for the Spaniard to save to set points, break serve with a trademark forehand and force a tie-break.
A 13-time champion at Roland Garros, he showed some nerves when trying to serve out the match but sealed it in four hours and 12 minutes at the fourth time of asking.
