A picture of a seal lounging on a dinghy off the Welsh coast has amused many of our readers — who responded with a cheeky suggestion for its name.
Earlier this week we reported that Karis Hedges, a full-time photographer from Carmarthenshire, was returning from Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire, when she noticed a seal “chilling out” in an inflatable boat with a pair of oars. Karis, who spotted the marine mammal as her boat headed to shore at Martin’s Haven, said: “I thought it was really cute that he was just totally unfazed by anyone and just chilling out without a care in the world. His expression is like, ‘And? Do you have a problem?’ Like it was the most normal thing.”
We posted the story on Facebook and asked our followers to suggest a name for the seal helming a stolen dinghy. And there was one that kept coming up.

Owen commented: “Overweight, makes funny noises, a nuisance and doesn’t care if he is caught doing wrong? How about Boris?”
Mark added: “Boris! Doesn’t care if he’s caught.” But Carolann wrote: “Can’t be a Boris he looks too neat and tidy”
Other contributions included Janine’s “Pugwash seeing as he’s a proper pirate” and an array of options from Kerry: “Sealy McSealface; Seal Armstrong; Stephen Sealberg.”
There was also a jibe at the Home Office’s much-maligned plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda. Jason commented: “If he touches land he will be off to Rwanda if Patel sees him.”
But the day was arguably won by Mark, who wrote: “After being robbed of my food by a seagull and hearing other stories of animals acting in an anti-social and criminal manner I think images promoting animals in criminal scenarios shouldn’t be published for entertainment. If I had stole a boat then would people be laughing at this?”
